Etherpad is a web-based editor that allows you to develop texts with others. You can edit texts in real time and view the old versions at any time. Pads have no access restrictions, and can be accessed via a self-chosen or cryptic URL without a password in the web. This openness is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Pads can be opened and edited directly in the browser or in PAUL. The document can be downloaded as a text or Word file.
Google purchased the technology in 2009 and made it available as an open-source license. Today the software is developed by the Etherpad Foundation.
